On 17 November 2025, MAYA Project coordinator Prof. Dimitrios Fotiadis participated in the online event Building Bridges in Digital Health: Data, Policy & People, organised by SHINE 2Europe.

With a total of 85 single participants in the two days, SHINE 2Europe and several key partners brought together European projects, organisations, and stakeholders to share experiences, align strategies, and strengthen collaboration around three critical pillars that shape the success of digital health: data & cybersecurity, policy and real-world implementation, and meaningful involvement of people in research.

As the first keynote, Prof. Dimitrios Fotiadis, emphasised the urgent need to bridge divides within health and care. He highlighted gaps in major therapeutic areas such as cancer and cardiology, as well as the persistent disconnect between primary and secondary care. According to Prof. Fotiadis, bridging these areas requires not only technical solutions but also genuine engagement with the people who use them. “We need to involve citizens from the very beginning,” he stressed, underscoring the importance of aligning innovation with real needs.
